Bank of Scotland Ireland (BoSI) to close by year end
Bank of Scotland (Ireland) (BoSI) is closing its doors and will cease to operate as a licensed bank on 31st December 2010.
The bank has been trading as Halifax in the Republic of Ireland for four years but a strategic review by parent company, Lloyds Banking Group, concluded "there was little opportunity for scalable growth in the future".
Most of its 800 staff will be transferred to an independent company that will oversee the run-off of the BoSI loan book, which could take between two and 10 years, according to a BBC report.
RTE News, the Irish broadcaster, has reported that the existing senior management team at the bank has tendered to run the new managed services company, with current BoSI chief executive, Joe Higgins, taking the lead.
Lloyds says it will be working with depositors at BoSI to ensure a smooth transition of their banking arrangements.
