The Savings Bank

The Savings Bank logo

We trace our heritage back to the Bank's first president, Cyrus Wakefield, who along with other business leaders, petitioned for a charter to open a savings bank to provide the community with a safe place to deposit their money, get a loan to buy or build a house, or secure money for a small business.

Starting with one physical location in 1869, the Bank was chartered as the Wakefield Savings Bank. We now have eight branch locations, plus the 1st Educational Savings Branch at Wakefield High School, the first student run branch in the nation. In 1989, our name changed to The Savings Bank to reflect our broader geographic footprint.

In addition to personal and business bank products and services, The Savings Bank offers wealth management and estate planning through First Financial Trust, N.A.

The Bank also operates two charitable foundations:

TSB Charitable Foundation (supporting the poor, the homeless, the elderly, and family services);
Donald E. Garrant Foundation (supporting financial literacy in public and private schools [K-12] and non-profits).

Bank Routing Number: #211371366
