Poštna banka Slovenije was established by the former Slovenian PTT organisations. The Bank started operations on 1 July 1992, immediately after Poštna hranilnica Beograd had been shut down.

It is typical of Poštna banka Slovenije that it operates via the largest and the most extensive network of Post of Slovenia's outlets. All postal outlets in Slovenia (550) or their counters providing cash transaction services are also the Poštna banka Slovenije's counters. The postal outlets have a more favourable (longer) opening hours, including on Saturdays.
