Northern Rock plc was a savings and mortgage British bank.

In 2011 Northern Rock was acquired by Virgin Group, being rebranded as Virgin Money the same year.

In 2007, the Bank has fallen victim to the credit squeeze triggered by the US subprime mortgage financial crisis. Northern Rock received a liquidity support facility from the Bank of England. Since 1 January 2010 the Northern Rock name has referred to two companies – Northern Rock plc, and a separate asset company, Northern Rock (Asset Management) plc.
